Arte dell Abrazare
| |
Medieval grappling with elements of wrestling, developed in Italy.
This grappling art ("art of the embrace") is a close-combat system developed in medieval
Italy. It was described, among others combat techniques, by Fiore dei Liberi in "Flos
Duellatorum", a reatise written in 1409-1410.
Abrazare features grappling, shoulder hold, neck hold, waist hold, head locks and techniques for
breaking out of these holds. Joint-locks and -breaks, ripping, striking, pressure-point attacks,
and control techniques focused on the opponents neck and head. Most attacks have several
variations, each used in response to specific maneuvers employed by the opponent.
Arte dell Abrazare was often practiced together with arte della daga, a knife fighting art.
